#AfyaUnboxed

Health is often framed within the confines of cisgender-heterosexual bodies. Consequently, the health needs of sexual and gender minorities – including Lesbian, Bisexual and Queer (LBQ) womxn and Gender Non-Conforming (GNC) folks – are rarely taken into consideration. This leaves them more vulnerable to health risks compared to the cisgender-heterosexual demographic.

#AfyaUnboxed is a biweekly segment where we will look at mental health and sexual and reproductive health beyond the confines of ciscentric and heteronormative boxes, by centering LBQ and GNC bodies. Our objective is to challenge the status quo, and demystify LBQ and GNC mental health and sexual and reproductive health through education and in-depth, honest conversations.
